In 2010, American Express founded Small Business Saturday to help businesses with their most pressing need — getting more customers. The day happens every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving and encourages people to shop at the small businesses that help write the story of America.

A handful of Brooklyn business owners play a starring role in a national ad campaign for Small Business Saturday, the “shop local” alternative to corporate retail’s Black Friday doorbusters.
The country-wide promotion, created by credit card giant American Express, highlights the quaint, quirky shops and boutiques in the Park Slope Fifth Ave. Business Improvement District, which stretches from 18th St. nearly to the Barclays Center.
